The Best Movies Of 2020

2020 might not have been the best year for anyone, but we have a few diversion gems that can make it easier to bear. The biggest movies in 2020 have been remarkably diverse, which makes sense after so much turbulence. From catharsis to comedy, we’ll look at what’s on the menu for your home theater when you’re not allowed to visit your local cineplex.

Palm Springs

This quirky romantic comedy stars Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti trapped in their own version of Groundhog Day. The two characters have to figure out how to get out of their existential nightmare. This might not sound like a heartfelt romp, but you’ll find yourself laughing the whole way through.

The Invisible Man

Elizabeth Moss stars in this intense film. An allegory for domestic abuse, the thrills and chills are cleverly played out from beginning to end. This movie might be a remake, but you’ll find that it’s anything but a rip-off.

Emma

This movie gets off to an arguably slow start, but the scenery and costumes will likely pull you through until the really good stuff. This romantic period movie stars Anya Taylor-Joy as Emma. It’s worth watching just to see Bill Nighy play her father.

Enola Holmes

This fun update on the classic Sherlock Holmes film stars Stranger Things veteran Millie Bobby Brown. As the sister to the famous detective, she comes into her own as she faces adventure after adventure on a quest to find the truth.

On the Rocks

This contemplative movie starring Rashida Jones and Bill Murray is classic Sophia Coppola. Beautifully shot and filled with nuanced characters, the story follows a father-daughter duo. Jones plays a woman who’s unsure if she really wants to know how her husband spends his time away from her.

Unhinged

This movie was a bit of a sleeper hit for 2020, largely because it seemed to strike a chord with people during this wild year. Starring Russel Crowe as a man with some of the worst road rage you can imagine, the movie is a violent release that couldn’t come soon enough for many people.

I’m Thinking of Ending Things

Charlie Kaufman made a name for himself with independent hits like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Being John Malkovich. His latest movie showcases his signature style of non-linear story-telling. What starts as a couple heading out for a road trip takes more than a few twists and turns along the way.
