If cutting the cable cord was one of your New Year’s resolutions, you’re going to want to know which streaming services offer the best bang for your buck. Streaming is a budget-friendly option for your home theater. It’s far less expensive than most cable or dish solutions, and you can combine a few streaming services to get the most comprehensive array of the types of content you enjoy.
Here we’d like to discuss some of the more popular streaming services of 2021 and what you can expect from each.
Best Streaming Services for 2021
As streaming services gain popularity, many people are finding it unnecessary to continue paying for cable or other services. With an internet connection, you can easily switch to one or several services and have a wide variety of movie and television options to meet your home viewing needs. Here are a few of the most popular:
- This is the grandfather of all the streaming services, and it’s still one of the most popular. And for a good reason. Netflix offers a wide array of movies and television series. They are the master of binging, giving their audience ample opportunity to start long-running series from the very beginning and watch all the way through to the series finale. Netflix has also made waves by creating highly acclaimed original series and picking up series created for other venues. Originals such as Orange Is the New Black gave Netflix plenty of creative credentials. Popular options also include The Last Kingdom, which is currently scheduling the fifth season, and the newly created series by Shonda Rhimes, Bridgerton. A great choice if you want a variety of original content and favorite network offerings.
- Hulu gives you a bit of a different offering. They do have movies and television shows, but they also offer a good selection of live television, so you can get your current series fix without keeping cable, instead of waiting for it to hit streaming services later.
- Disney +. This channel has a significant number of movies. You forget how much Disney actually owns besides their animated creations, but it’s quite extensive. They had a great surge when they released Hamilton and they will continue to do well with their extensive library of blockbusters.
- Amazon Prime. Amazon offers original programming as well as an ever-expanding collection of mainstream blockbusters and classics. It is Amazon. We expect that they may have more services and offerings up their sleeve in the new year.
- One great thing about Peacock, it’s free. It also has tons of sports, series, and content. There are some paid options that eliminate ads, but you can get started with this one for no cost, so why not?
We expect new entries into the streaming wars as more and more people move to this viewing mode. We wouldn’t bet against Amazon Prime to dominate, even though they’re not the most popular now. It’s hard to bet against a mammoth company like that. We also see Netflix continuing to perform at best in class.
